Poetry Monday 7/8/13

Sorry I’m running late today. It’s been a hectic day already. I hope you have a wonderful Monday and a great week.

Opportunity doesn’t knock when we’re sitting still
But when we are seeking it will come
Being lukewarm or in a rut isn’t in God’s will
But moving forward, we must press on

Bed Borders, Parties, and Branches

The fourth was full, fun, and interesting for me. On Wednesday I cleaned out my blueberry flower bed and began the process of bordering it with upside down, used beer bottles. I’m not quite halfway through so I’ve got a lot of beer to drink. Yesterday I mowed and edged, went to work to water plants, took care of my wife’s cut finger, and had a group over to play Munchkin. Oh yeah, about 2 minutes before our guests started arriving a huge limb over out driveway cracked and fell. If my jeep had been in the driveway it would have been damaged fairly seriously. I’m not 100% sure what’s going to happen with the limb and how we’re going to take care of it, but our neighbor thinks it won’t be too bad to pull it the rest of the way down once we cut some of the stuff off close to the ground. I hope everyone else had as interesting a fourth as I did.

When we are young we think being a grown up automatically fixes any problems and makes everything easy for us. Unfortunately, it seems we waist our time as children wishing we were grown ups and our time as grown ups wishing we could go back to being children. Life isn’t easy. I don’t know anyone who has never faced hard times. I don’t know anybody who could honestly say everything is perfect. We live in a fallen, sinful world, filled with fallen, sinful people.

Now I’ve brought everyone down, I do have hop for you. In case you haven’t caught it in other posts, I’m a Christian, and that means I have a Savior who gives peace in the midst of trials. I have a mediator who knows what it means to suffer and who has promised never to leave me or forsake me. My Lord is good and good to me even when I can’t see it or don’t understand it. Does he just make my life into a lazy river where I don’t have to deal with anything hard? No, but he deals with my problems with me and uses them to prepare me for what he has planned in my life. He gives hope for the new Heaven and new Earth where everything is made right and good and perfect. I honestly don’t know how I would make it through without him and my heart breaks for those who are trying to. He is there for you. He can and does give peace in the midst of turmoil. I’m not perfect. I’m not always happy. I don’t have all the answers. My God is perfect though, and he gives joy (a truly different thing from happiness), and he knows what he is doing in my life.

Poetry Monday 7/1/13

I didn’t want to wake up today
In my dreams I wanted to stay
Things were going great
And now I’ve slept too late
Still I wish I could stay in bed!

I hope everyone has a good week. I hope you all get some rest and enjoy the 4th (if you’re in the USA). My week is going to be hectic, but hopefully good. We will see how it goes.
